Zola Notices Everything

  Noticing who's left out

Zola noticed the new kid before anyone else did

Zola standing a friendly distance from a new boy alone by a wall, giving a small wave

He'd been at the school three days and had spent every break standing near the wall by the trash cans, which is where you stand when you don't know where to stand.

Zola didn't march over and introduce herself, because being adopted by an enthusiastic stranger is its own kind of ordeal. She just started standing a reasonable distance away, doing her own thing.

By Thursday they were standing near each other. By the next week they were talking. It took a while, and it worked.

Try it this week: Slow friendship counts. Sitting nearby is a real thing to offer.
