Knowing what she needs
Zola picked the quiet table at a birthday party
There was a bouncy castle, and a speaker playing music with a lot of drums in it, and eleven children who had all just eaten cake.
Zola made it about forty minutes. Then she took her plate to the little table around the side of the house, where it was shady and you could still hear the party but only a bit of it, and she sat down and ate her chips in peace.
Two other kids came and joined her. Nobody planned it. They just sat there being quiet together for a while, and then everyone went back in.
She didn't leave the party. She just took a smaller piece of it.
Try it this week: Before a big event, decide together where the quiet spot will be. Just knowing it's there helps.
