Zola Notices Everything

  Noticing color

Zola found a leaf that couldn't make up its mind

Most of the leaves in the park were doing one thing. They were red, or they were yellow, or they had given up and gone brown.

Zola found one that was doing two things at once: one side still summer green, the rest bright red, like it had started turning and lost track halfway.

She carried it home very carefully, the way you'd carry a full cup of juice. It is now pressed inside the heaviest book in the house, which is, for the record, the dictionary.

“It's my favorite,” she said, “because it's still deciding.”

Try it this week: Go on a leaf hunt for the one with the most colors. Press the winner in a heavy book.
