Zola Notices Everything

  Choosing her own front row

Zola watched the fireworks from the car

Zola and her dad sitting on a grassy hilltop at night, pointing up at fireworks far away, their family car parked behind them with its back door open

She wanted to see them. She did not want to be in the middle of a field with two hundred people and a sound system.

So the family parked up on the hill, opened the trunk, got cozy in it with blankets, and watched the whole display from right there. Quieter, further away, and — Zola pointed out — a much better view.

There is usually a version of the thing that works. It just isn't always the version on the poster.

Try it this week: Ask what would make it doable rather than whether it's doable at all.
